Forward Drinking is a boutique spirits maker based in Melbourne. Founder Luke realised native Australian ingredients needed a platform where their stories were highlighted, as well as a need for these ingredients to be more generally accessible to the wider Australian community. His highly limited series of liqueurs seeks to bridge this gap by introducing native ingredients in a delicious, approachable form.
This Kakadu Plum Liqueur is made with Kakadu Plums sourced from The Australian Superfood Co. who supplied them in partnership with Palngun Wurnangat Aboriginal Corporation. PWAC is a Women’s Centre in the Wadeye Community in the Northern Territory. Together, PWAC and TASC are working to reverse the ongoing pattern of poverty, poor health and oppression in Indigenous communities.
To make this liqueur, the plums go through a steeping method similar to that of Ume plums in the production of Umeshu. For this 274 bottle batch, production lasted 18 months with plums going through a process of pre-soaking and then two extended periods of soaking in small format glass barrels before being removed from the solution. A further period of maturation results in a distinctive, complex native Australian Kakadu Plum liqueur.
This limited edition release is emblazoned with artwork by indigenous artist Hannah Lange.
