Situated on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, a destination for premium local produce, Bass & Flinders Distillery is the brainchild of two locals who noticed a prevalence of small wineries in the region but no distilleries. Established in 2009, at the distillery’s core is a 300 litre copper Alembic style still which doubles as the distillery’s logo. All their gins are made from scratch - local wine is distilled into grape spirit and subsequently re-distilled with botanicals. A time consuming but worthwhile affair!
We're incredibly chuffed to be one of very few stockists of this 4-pack gin tasting set. It contains samples of some vastly different gin flavours and highlights the team's breadth of distilling know-how. Inside, you'll find a 50ml mini bottle of the following four gins:
Orient Gin
One of Bass & Flinders' latest releases, the Orient Gin features botanicals as varied as mandarin, kaffir lime, sesame, jujube (a red date thought to be native to South East Asia), strawberry gum and Sichuan peppercorn.
Maritime Gin
A navy strength gin this is not. Instead, what this is: A bold savoury gin, made from locally foraged kelp, samphire and coastal saltbush. Perfect for a Martini and well suited to being 'dirtied up' with some olives.
Angry Ant Gin
To the best of our knowledge, this was the first gin in Australia to take on the daring challenge of using ants as a botanical. Native gravel ants are combined with currant bush, sandalwood nuts, native lemongrass and purple vetch to make this quintessentially Australian gin with no imported botanicals apart from the juniper.
Cerise Gin
The distillery's flagship pink gin. No, there are no artificial colours, flavours, added sugar or sweeteners. It tastes like gin, because it is gin. The blushing tones are thanks to locally grown cherries and raspberries. Authentically mouth watering.
