Autonomy Distillers is a sustainability-forward distillery in inner-west Melbourne that collects waste fruit for use in their products and shreds all incoming cardboard for reuse as packing material.

Stappa Wines also hails from the inner-west of Melbourne, making high quality, playful wines by sourcing obscure and more traditional grape varieties from over Australia and mixing them in interesting ways.

Made with Tinta Barroca grapes, wormwood, Davidson plum and a variety of Australian myrtles, SOMA Red Vermouth is bittersweet with bursts of fresh tart plums, orange zest, ripe blackberries and pepper. Think of it like a Sangria on steroids. Or a spiced wine that's a class above mulled wine.

Serving suggestions:

  • Neat. Like you would drink a glass of fine red wine. Ice optional. Garnish with an orange twist for a more sophisticated look.
  • Negroni. Pour 30ml SOMA Red Vermouth, 30ml Scarletta and 30ml gin in a mixing glass with ice. Stir then strain and garnish with an orange slice.
  • Sweet Manhattan. Mix 30ml SOMA Red Vermouth, 60ml bourbon whisky and a spoonful of syrup from a jar of Maraschino Cherries. Stir over ice and strain. Garnish with a Maraschino Cherry.
