'Peated Single Malts'
Limited Edition Tasting Flight
40-54% ABV / 5x30mL
Designed for the 'smokeheads' of the whisky world that can't get enough of their peat, here's one of our favourite limited edition tasting sets we've worked on in recent times. It features five unique and rare peated single malt whiskies from around Australia, including the long sold-out 'Stringybark Smoked Single Malt' from Archie Rose and the super premium 'Smoky 1881' from Timboon Distillery.
Each whisky is presented in a 30ml matte-black glass sampler bottle and labelled with the distillery, whisky name and where it was distilled. A sleek and eco-friendly themed slide-out box holds the whiskies together. On the back of the box, you'll find some light reading - a brief profile of each distillery and whisky.
Designed as a gift for those who have everything already, or to help seek out your own whisky adventure at home.
Included whiskies
'Peated Malt' by Chief's Son Distillery
This Peated Malt is made using a floral style of peat rather than a coastal, Islay style peat. The whisky is aged for three years in ex-Sherry French Oak casks then for a further year in ex-Bourbon American Oak casks.
'Iniquity Talamara' by Tin Shed Distilling
A new 2200L copper pot still and an older 600L still perform most of the magic here at the home of Iniquity Whisky. The barley for Talamara is lightly peated with peat sourced from the Fleurieu Peninsula. The whisky is aged for four years in ex-Shiraz casks then finished in a combination of ex-Port and ex-Sherry casks.
'Smoky 1881' by Timboon Distillery
Nestled in behind the smashing waves of Port Campbell, Timboon Railway Shed Distillery are makers of fine whisky and liqueurs. They also have cattle and their own cooperage too. A smidgen of Scottish peat gives this whisky its smokiness. As a sweet counterbalance to the peat, Timboon have aged this dram in ex-Tawny American Oak casks.
'Stringybark Smoked Single Malt' by Archie Rose Distillery
With a keen interest in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for this Stringybark Smoked Malt, the 11th release in Archie Rose's ‘Trials & Exceptions’ series, the distillers decided to replace Scottish peated malt with a combination of five locally grown malts, each roasted and smoked with stringybark wood before ageing the new-make in ex-Apera casks.
'Barrel House XB Peated' by Corowa Distillery
Corowa Distillery was transformed from a disused flour mill that the owners bought for one dollar from the local council. The distillery started squirreling away casks of whisky from 2016 and it‘s been going strong ever since. All of their whiskies are made from organic barley grown locally and water from the Murray River. This peated number is aged in ex-Bourbon American Oak casks.
