The brainchild of serial entrepreneur David Vitale, Starward Distillery began in an old aircraft hangar in Melbourne. With an aim to ‘democratising Australian whisky’ and moving them from the collector’s shelf to the sharing table, Starward Distillery has grown to arguably the most recognised Australian whisky brand with their whiskies also exported to dozens of countries around the world. Over time, Starward has developed a bit of a reputation for banana and fresh fruit notes in their whisky.
This 3pc selection of some of the distillery's core range gives you a taste of their entry level Two-Fold through to the hard hitting Fortis. Inside, you'll find a 200ml mini bottle of the following three whiskies:
This rather tasty entry level whisky is made using a blend of Starward's own new-make spirit and bulk ‘neutral grain spirit’ distilled in NSW. The blended spirit is then aged in 40-50 year old Australian casks originally used for Apera (Australian Sherry). The casks are re-coopered into smaller sizes and lightly toasted.
Nova (previously known as Wine Cask) demonstrates Starward's focus on making a whisky using what Australia already has to offer. The whisky ages in predominantly ex-South Australian Shiraz casks. These casks have the unusual treatment of a light steaming, rather than the usual charring, prior to filling. This serves to preserve as much of the existing wine influence on the oak staves as possible.
As its name suggests, this is a strong whisky. At a higher 50% ABV, it's given the full ex-red wine cask treatment. All of the casks used hail from the Barossa Valley, with some of them charred prior to being deployed at Starward. Fortis is as much a celebration of Australian red wine as it is a bold whisky.

As a neat and somewhat quirky addition, why not include a custom gift note on a Possum Greeting Card for an extra $5?
